Badger Hill Bakery is getting ready to make the pies which are given out at the end of the annual 20-mile Challenge Walk for York’s St Leonard’s Hospice.
The walk, which takes place on May 5, was first held on the same date in 1990.
For that first walk there were 40 walkers; this year’s number will be limited to 200. Geoff Hawkins, a member of the original committee that established the walk, has been involved every year since 1990, and has welcomed walkers at the finish with a Badger Hill pie. The inaugural walk raised more than £1,400; over the years the income has grown steadily, with a total of more than £200,000 going towards the work of St Leonard’s.
