MEMBERS of North Yorkshire and Teesside St John Ambulance raised a record £3,875 during their Ladies’ Day collection at the Ebor meeting at York Racecourse last month – almost £1,500 more than at the event in 2009.
Deputy county president Christine Russell said racegoers’ generosity would enable the organisation to continue providing first aid training for the public and first aid cover across a wide range of events in the region.
She said: “Our message is simple: each year there are up to 150,000 needless deaths where first aid could have made the difference between a life saved and a life lost. This has to stop and the generosity of people who donated at York Races really does make a difference.”
