A CHARITY football match will be held in York this week in aid of an organisation which provides support to parents in the midst of tragedy.
The match will see the Post Office Social Club take on the Royal Mail at the York Railway Institute’s sports ground off Hamilton Drive, Holgate, on Friday, with the money raised going to the Stillborn And Neonatal Death Society (SANDS).
The charity helps parents whose babies die during pregnancy or shortly after being born, as well as funding research into stillbirth.
Daryl Bateson, who works for the Royal Mail in York, organised the game after SANDS helped his family in 2005, when his son Bradley was stillborn.
The match kicks off at 6.30pm, and will be followed by a raffle and the screening of the Euro 2012 qualifying match between England and Bulgaria.
