Cyclist David Butler undertakes Minster challenge in aid of people of Mara

A YORKSHIREMAN cycled more than 50 miles across the region to raise funds and help villagers in Tanzania.

David Butler is a member of Halifax Minster and decided to cycle from his Minster to York Minster to raise money for the work of Wakefield diocese in Tanzania.

David set off from his home in Bradford on Tuesday morning at 5.30am, arrived at Halifax Minster at 6.30am and reached York at about 9.30am.

“It has been a bit harder than I expected it to be,” said David, 48.

His on-board mile-o-meter recorded that the Halifax to York trip took 2hrs 53mins.

He aimed to raise enough money to buy the people of Mara two goats at £60 each, but he believes he has now raised nearly £300.
