Brenda Lawton to cycle from Selby to York in memory of former neighbour Bill Taylor

A NORTH Yorkshire pensioner will do a lone sponsored cycle ride on Sunday from Selby to York and back in memory of her former neighbour.

Brenda Lawton, 68, has been completing the ride for many years having first cycled the course with Bill Taylor before his death.

Since he died Brenda, from Barlby, has organised a ride each year near his birthday on August 1 and members of his family and friends have joined in.

Since it started the ride has raised thousands of pounds for the MS Society, a charity close to Brenda’s heart as her late husband, Eric, suffered with the illness.

Brenda said: “I will be doing the ride in Bill’s memory. He was a good neighbour and friend to many in Selby.”

Why are all Older People (i.e. those over 60) referred to as a "pensioner"?
Why the heck should I or any other older person be defined by whether or not they are entitled to a PENSION it's irrelevant and a demeaning title!
No doubt the University Vice Chancellor ,retired senior Professor or Archbishop avoids this designation if they are lucky, but isn't it about time the so called " media" stopped using this word.
Brenda is a caring older person showing that she has a good heart in all senses of the word.
