Martyn Miller Bike Ride raises money for cancer and rugby charities

MORE than £5,000 was raised on a charity bike ride in memory of Martyn Miller.

The father-of-two, from Huntington, was diagnosed with terminal cancer a year ago and died just six weeks later.

Phil Seymour, Martyn’s brother-in-law, organised the event and 85 riders completed the 30-mile trip from Huntington Stadium to Riccall and back, to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support and Higgo’s 13-A-Side Rugby Foundation, the local charity formed in memory of the York City Knights academy coach Paul Higgins.

Phil said: “It started as a crazy idea, but it’s all worked out brilliantly.

“It is a testament to Martyn and the high regard in which he was held that so many people turned out, and went the extra mile in raising great amounts of sponsorship.

“I’d like to thank everyone who took part.”
