Miss England semi-finalist, Heather Walker, takes the plunge for charities

A MISS England semi-finalist is taking the plunge and swimming that extra length to raise cash for charity.

Heather Walker, who lives off Burton Stone Lane, in Clifton, York, was diving into Yearsley Pool this morning hoping to swim a kilometre – which equates to 22 lengths of the pool – to raise money for Help For Heroes and the Variety Club of Great Britain.

The 17-year-old, who studies applied science and sport at Archbishop Holgate’s CE School, said she was hoping to raise at least £719 – the amount she collected after walking 22 miles for the Variety Club.

This led to her being crowned Miss Charity at the Miss York finals and secured her a place in the Miss England semis.
