FIREFIGHTERS from York have been getting into a right old lather to raise cash for charity.

The team from York and Acomb fire stations teamed up with David Lloyd Health Club in Hull Road on Saturday to offer a free car-washing service – with those wanting their vehicles to be cleaned up making donations to The Fire Fighters Charity.

The cause helps members of the fire service, as well as their families and burns victims, in times of need or if they have suffered injuries, and the event also saw those taking part offer community safety tips.

“This is a great way to meet with the communities we serve,” said firefighter Terence Gregg, who helped to organise the event.

“The charity is totally reliant on voluntary donations for the invaluable work it does and we never know when one of us may need its help. We’d also like to thank David Lloyd Health Club for providing the venue and donating free family day passes to drivers who had their cars washed on the day.
