Schoolgirl raises money for Haiti Earthquake Appeal

An enterprising schoolgirl has put her love of baking to good use, helping raise money for victims of the Haiti earthquake.

Matilda Austen, seven, decided to set up a cake stall outside her house following a fundraiser at her school and after seeing reports about the disaster on children’s TV programme Newsround.

The Fishergate School pupil baked and decorated the cakes with the help of her sister, Esme, four, and advertised the stall by displaying posters in the street.

The generosity of neighbours and passers by helped Matilda raise £15.50 which will be donated to the Disasters Emergency Committee’s Haiti Earthquake Appeal.
