TWO organisations which met at The Press Business Awards where they were both winners, have combined to help multiple sclerosis sufferers and their families.

The Royal York Hotel chose Woodlands MS Respite Care Centre of York to be its charity of the year after their representatives met at the 2008 awards at York Racecourse.

Tomorrow, at the hotel, staff will hand over a cheque for £3,448.40 to Woodlands.

The money was generated by a number of fundraising activities, including a family fun day, a ball, a staff Christmas event and by two members of the Royal York staff running 13.1 miles in the 2009 Great North Run.

Respite guests, volunteers and staff from Woodlands will receive the cheque at an afternoon tea hosted by the hotel.

The money will be used to support the 400 places offered at the home each year both for MS sufferers and their carers.

A “delighted” Rachael Chamberlain, fundraising and volunteer co-ordinator at Woodlands, said: “We have thoroughly enjoyed working with the hotel’s staff and using its fantastic facilities throughout 2009.

“All the money raised will go directly to support the vital service Woodlands offers to people directly affected by multiple sclerosis.”

At the 2008 awards Woodlands was declared the organisation which had the Best Business And Education Link, while the Royal York won the Progress Through People title.
