York woman to shave off hair to help fund treatment of Jamie Inglis

A WOMAN from York will shave off all her hair on Valentine’s Day to help send a four-year-old cancer victim to America for treatment.

Celia Vose, 61, hopes the stunt will raise £1,000 towards the £250,000 needed to give Jamie Inglis the best possible chance of survival.

The youngster, whose parents live in Elvington, but are currently stationed with the British Army in Germany, has been battling an aggressive childhood cancer called neuroblastoma since April.

He is currently in hospital recovering from an intensive course of chemotherapy.

But it is likely a few of the cancer cells will have survived, so his family is in a race against time to raise £250,000 to send Jamie to America for revolutionary treatment, which, it is hoped, will kill off the cancer for good.

Celia, of Rose Street, in York, said: “I saw an article about Jamie in The Press and made a donation, but then I thought I’m sure I can do more than that.

“I thought about it all over Christmas and then I thought, oh to hell with it, I’ll have all my hair shaved off.

“It makes me cringe when people tell me how brave I am because it’s not me that’s brave, it’s Jamie and his family.

“He’s such a gorgeous little boy and it’s awful to have been through so much when he’s only just turned four.”

Celia worked as a canteen assistant at the Monroe shock absorber plant, in Shipton Road, for 31 years before it closed in 2000.

She will face the razor in Harker’s Bar, in St Helen’s Square, York, on February 14.

If you would like to sponsor her, send cheques made payable to 2 Simple Trust/Jamie Inglis Appeal to Mrs Vose, 80 Rose Street, York, YO31 8JF.
