A TEAM of walkers who call themselves The Pink Peakers took on the challenge of Yorkshire's Three Peaks and completed the 26 mile route in under 12 hours.

The team, who included local marketing interns of Cancer Research UK, such as Bethan Jones of Selby and University of York student Rachel Hart, raised more than £400 for Cancer Research UK as well as raising awareness of Race for Life events in the region this summer. They wore the pink Race for Life T-shirts.

Rachel said:"The reward of raising money for research and building awareness of the Race for Life campaign has far outweighed the difficulty of the three peaks challenge," adding: "76 people in Yorkshire are diagnosed with cancer each day."

Race for Life events, including 5k and 10k races and also Pretty Muddy, a new women-only, non-competitive 5k obstacle race, take place in York this year over the weekend of July 4 and 5 at The Knavesmire.
