CARING golfers at a York club have helped raise more than £7,500 for St Leonard’s Hospice.

The Tadcaster Road-based centre was the chosen charity of 2014 Sandburn Hall Golf Club captain Colin McLorg and through a charity ball, quiz nights, collection jars and a golf day hosted by Match Of The Day commentator Guy Mowbray, members and staff helped to raise the huge sum.

The money will be used to help St Leonard’s continue to provide care and support for local people with life-threatening illnesses.

Mr McLorg said: “We looked at various charities and there were a lot of worthy causes.

“When I looked into the some of the work they do at St Leonard’s I just thought it was the right cause.

“I am absolutely amazed at the donations.

“It has been a team effort – the whole club committee and staff – and the generosity of the members has overwhelmed me at times.”

Annie Keogh, the charity’s corporate fundraiser, said: “We are really pleased.

“It all goes into direct patient care and it costs us £4 million to run the hospice so it’s a fantastic contribution to make towards the work that we do.
