THE Lord Mayor of York will be selling items at a car boot sale this weekend to raise money for charity.

Councillor Ian Gillies will be at Huntington Sports and Social Club on Sunday to help at a car boot sale in aid of this year’s civic charities, York Against Cancer and the York Teaching Hospital Charity, which try to improve patient care across the city.

While he won’t be selling any objects from the civic collection, there should be plenty of bargains on offer on the day.

The car boot sale is still open for residents to pitch up from 8am to sell their own items, at a cost of £5 for cars and £7 for vans, all of which will go to the civic charities.

The event is open to the public from 9am.

Councillor Gillies said: “This promises to be a great event in aid of this year’s civic charities.

“It is hoped this event will help add to the money raised for these great causes and I’m looking forward to meeting those who attend.”

There will also be refreshments for sale in the morning.
