A POPULAR rugby player will be remembered this weekend when a family fun day is held in his memory.

Ady Robinson was 36 when he contracted meningitis and died suddenly in December last year.

Friends at the New Earswick Sports Club are planning an Easter Sunday funday to raise money for meningitis charities in Ady’s honour.

Ady was a “massive part” of the New Earswick club, former school friend Lou Knott said.

She added: “Ady is very well remembered by the rugby community. He was a popular guy. There aren’t many people in rugby who wouldn’t know Ady.”

Lou has arranged the day with the help of the stewards at New Earswick Sports Club.

She is now appealing for more people to volunteer to help on the day.

The festivities will be held at New Earswick Sports Club, in White Rose Avenue, from 1pm.

Attractions include bat the rat, a bouncy castle, face-painting, a coconut shy, and a family disco.

There will also be traditional Easter games like an egg throwing competition, a decorated egg competition, an Easter bonnet competition, an Easter egg hunt, and a visit from the Easter bunny.

Lou said: “The idea was born out of the Easter egg throwing we used to do when I was a child.

“I suggested it to the people at the club, and we decided to do something for a good cause as well.”

Entry is free but there will be a small charge to take part in the activities like the egg throwing and decorating, and Easter bonnet making, with all proceeds going to charity.

Egg throwers need to be in pairs and should arrive before 2pm to register, no age limit.

Volunteers to help on the day are also welcome and should phone Lou for more information on 07846 350454.
