A YORK university student will shave her head to help raise funds to tackle poverty and inequality in South Africa Frankie Fox, 24, is studying counselling at York St John University and is shaving her head on May 21 to support a project that tackles poverty in South Africa.

She will travel to South Africa next June to work on the development project for ten weeks.

Frankie will be teaming up with South African volunteers to tackle some of the problems facing the local community such as HIV/AIDS, substance misuse, homelessness and the inclusion of people living with disabilities, after getting a place on the government-funded International Citizen Service (ICS) volunteering programme.

Frankie said: “People keep saying that shaving my head is a brave thing to do, but when I think about how lucky I am and how little some people have I know it’s the easiest thing I could do.

“Everyone has been incredibly supportive and I hope even more people will donate.”

Frankie will also be donating her hair to the Little Princess Trust, a charity to provide real hair wigs for children suffering hair loss.
