A TEAM of hairdressers more than quadrupled their fundraising target after snipping around the clock for charity.

Staff at Sculpture Hair and Beauty, in Lowther Street, raised £1,350 for MacMillan Cancer Care after holding a ‘salonathon’.

The team of six hairdressers and beauticians cut hair and gave treatments for 24 hours non stop, with 50 per cent of all the treatment prices being donated to the charity.

Additional funds were raised by customer donations, a cake sale, and sponsored back-wax by local firemen.

Salon owner Vicky Westerman said: “I wanted to raise money for MacMillan as back in November my mum was diagnosed with cancer. Since then they have been really great, and I wanted to give something back.

“We started out initially hoping to raise about £300, then when we hit that we thought £500 would be amazing. Now we’ve reached £1,350, with more money still coming in.

“I’m delighted with how it went, it was fantastic. We had so much support from customers. It was a cracking 24 hours.”
