SECRET agents, red hot chillies and cake portraits have all helped to raise money for Red Nose Day in York.

Zoe Paterson was among those getting into the fundraising spirit after deciding to take this year’s Comic Relief theme of making funny faces for money literally.

She decided to bake 30 cakes, each bearing the face of a well-known comedian. The cakes will be sold at Love Cheese in Gillygate between 11am and 5.30pm tomorrow, and profits donated to Comic Relief.

“It’ll be a huge challenge,” said Zoe, whose blog ‘Oi! FaceCake!’ showcases her hobby of creating people’s faces as cakes.

“Usually a full-size cake takes at least three hours to decorate.

If I pull it off, it’ll be a literal visual feast. The best faces to do are always the ones with the most character, and most comedians’ faces are great for that, so it should produce some of my best Face- Cakes to date.”

TK Maxx has been trying to get people to make funny faces by making them eat hot chillies.

The store organised a three-stage challenge for nine of its executives, including eating hot chillies, apple bobbing but with red noses instead of fruit, and then dancing on demand to a song picked by the DJ.

Store manager Georgie Sherwood-Reid said it was meant to cause some laughs.

Meanwhile, since red noses are being sold in surprise packages, students at Bootham School were asked to come dressed in disguise as “secret agents”, with rewards for the most original outfits.

They competed in the best hairstyle, best costume, best dance act and best overall team categories.

The annual hair and dance competition for teams of two hairdressing students and three dance students is organised by Inspire Training Salon and Just Dance York.
