YOUNGSTERS from primary schools across York gathered to record a video for Red Nose Day.

About 35 children from 14 schools turned up at Melrose Yard Studios in Walmgate to record a backing track to go on their own video montage.

As reported in The Press earlier this month, It’s part of a bid to get each of York’s 52 primary schools to submit a short video clip of staff or pupils for inclusion, and 40 schools have already signed up.

The children are making their faces funny for money and creating the track to go alongside their recording of this year’s official schools song Making Funny Faces.

The project is being coordinated by John Hattam, the community outreach worker at Clifton Green Primary.

He said: “It was great to see so many children from across the city coming together and singing so enthusiastically.”

This year’s national Red Nose Day theme is ‘doing something funny with your face’, promoted by an official schools song written by Mark Johnson.

Mr Hattam said York primary schools had been given permission to make their very own version of the video, creating a York Schools Funny Face Project.

He said: “So far, 40 primary schools have signed up to the project and are submitting their funny face clips and photos, to be amalgamated into one big Red Nose Day video.

“The aim is to raise £2,000. It would be great if local businesses and individuals would be able to sponsor the project especially as it has involved so many children from across the city.

“Melrose Yard Studios has been fantastic and gave us three hours free studio time. We have also had a £200 donation from Ardent Financial Planning which has pushed our total so far up to about £400.”
