FUNDRAISERS braved temperatures above 1,200 degrees Fahrenheit to show their support of York Blind & Partially Sighted Society.

More than £3,500 was raised when 27 people put their best feet forward to walk over fire to raise funds for the charity at the Coppergate Centre in York, with more sponsor monies still to come.

Diane Roworth, chief Officer of YBPSS said: "The firewalk has been a fantastic success and we are really proud that three of our members who are visually impaired have taken part.

"We are amazed at the enthusiasm and positivity of everyone who took part in the event and all who sponsored so generously.

"Some people undertook the firewalk as individuals, some as couples and others as teams which included teams from Café Nero, Santander and The Pig & Pastry. We are delighted at the response from local people and businesses who have supported us.”

Money raised from contributions will help YBPSS to continue to offer support and services to more than 1000 blind and partially-sighted people in York, helping them to retain their independence.

Nicola Fort, Rachel Craske, Charlotte McInerney and Stacey O’Connell, from Santander Bank York, were among those who took part.

Nicola said there were "fully up for the challenge".

"We like to get involved in local community projects and fundraising and help where we can. It was also a personal challenge and something that is out of the ordinary to do whilst fundraising for an excellent charity as they do invaluable work."
