HUNDREDS of people helped raise money for good causes at the annual Lord Mayor’s Ball.
The event took place in the Voltigeur Suite at York Racecourse on Saturday, with a St Valentine’s Day theme, and more than 400 people took part in the celebrations.
The Lord Mayor, Cllr Ian Gillies, said: “It was fantastic. We don’t know the final figure yet but it was amazing.
“We sold all the auction prizes and raffle envelopes.
“The band Pure Silk were excellent. People started on the dance floor and never got off, it couldn’t have gone better.”
Coun Gillies said he wanted to thank Tarnia Hudson, Julie Russel at York Against Cancer and her team, and the generosity of local businesses and sponsors who had donated goods for the raffle and auction.
Proceeds from the ball will go towards the Lord Mayor’s charities.
This year these are York Against Cancer and the York Teaching Hospital charity.
