MOTHERS are being asked to donate unwanted children’s clothes to vulnerable families instead of throwing them away, in a new scheme to cut waste.
Environmental charity Hubbub has teamed up with mother and baby brand JoJo Maman Bebe and Barnardo’s to launch the From A Mother To Another scheme, to cut some of the estimated £3,500 worth of clothing that goes to landfill for each child growing up.
According to Hubbub, families spend an average of £11,000 on clothing for a childas they grow up, but around a third of UK clothing ends up in landfill.
The charity said there was often a lot of life left in children’s outgrown and unwanted clothing, and the new scheme aims to support vulnerable families and cut down on textile waste.
In the run-up to Mother’s Day, parents are being asked to hand in good-quality, unwanted baby and children’s clothes to the JoJo Maman Bebe store in Low Petergate, York, where they will be distributed through Barnardo’s to vulnerable families.
