WORKERS at McDonald’s in York have handed St Leonard’s Hospice a cheque for £620 after Christmas fundraising in the restaurant.
The cash was raised when boss John Atherton donned a Santa suit for a day in the five McDonald’s in the city.
John accepted a challenge from Hospice fundraisers to wear the suit at work, and asked the staff at his restaurants – two at Monk’s Cross and at Clifton Moor, at the McArthur Glen Designer Outlet and in Blake Street – to raise at least £100 for seeing him dressed up.
John said: “I had a great time – I’d intended to work, but I spent all my time talking to the children in the restaurants.
“The restaurant staff were great – they raised all the money in a very short time – probably for the pleasure of seeing the boss dressed up!”
