A LUCKY bidder has donated £3,750 to charity to spend a two-day fishing weekend with a York lawyer-cum-angler.

Julian Cundiff, amateur carp fisherman, who works as a legal advisor to York and Selby magistrates, put together a fishing prize on a charity auction site run by fellow anglers.

It consisted of a combination of two days in the company of Mr Cundiff, staying at his house, a visit to an anglers' haunt, the Carp Room, and a chance to fish with the lawyer with free rigs bait and other gifts including a signed fishing book by Mr Cundiff, inspired the winning bidder to put up £3,750.

The court advisor is now looking forward to their weekend together indulging in their shared love of carp fishing.

"I do get asked to do paid tuitions regularly but prefer to do the odd one for charity and auctions," he said. "This particular one raised the most money ever for a bid with an angler and at £3,750 for 48 hours works out at £78 per hour. I'm more than happy to do something for such a great charity."

The auction was to raise money for the parents of a little boy with a rare condition that means that his body cannot absorb food properly and who needs specialist equipment. It was run through a group of anglers who run auctions to raise money for different charities.
