YOUNG rugby players turned out in force as part of a sponsored run to pay for their new kit.

The York Acorn ARL Team under-15s and under-11s are raising money to pay for matching team wear they can use throughout the year as they currently play in their own clothes.

They have estimated they will need to raise some £2,000 to pay for the kit for all the players.

Gavin Grimbley, the under-15s coach, said: "Huge thanks to all the kids for turning up in such windy conditions. We want all the players to look like part of a team- it will make them feel like they are all together and not individuals and we want them to feel proud.

"We didn't expect such a big turnout."

Training for the under-15s starts on Monday, January 12 from 6 to 7pm at York Acorn, Thanet Road, Acomb - any new players are welcome to attend training.
