COMPANIES can take part in a go-karting challenge in York next year to help raise money for two good causes.

This year's Lord Mayor's charities include both York Against Cancer, and York Teaching Hospital's Trust, and both are set to benefit from go karting day at York MotorSports Village.

The fundraising team has joined forces with the venue, who are hosting the event for local businesses. The day has been created for corporate teams to compete, by invitation, over three sessions throughout the day at the fantastic facilities at YMSV.

Each session will see eight teams - each with a maximum of five drivers - compete for two and a half hours, including two hours of racing on the track and in a state of the art simulator which depicts the legendary Silverstone track.

Each session will end with a podium presentation for the winning teams, and a final podium presentation for overall all winning team will round off the day with a trophy given out by the Lord Mayor.

Food will be provided throughout the day, with a hot meal at the end of the last session, Also available is a fully licensed bar which is available at all times.

There will also be a silent auction throughout the day, with lots especially designed for adrenaline junkies – including first class return tickets for two on Grand Central from York to London King’s Cross, with the outward journey being in the driving cab of the train for one passenger; and the chance to ride pillion around a professional race track with British superbike star rider Dan Linfoot.

The money raised be split between the two charities, and will help York Against Cancer buy a new minibus, and keeps its free transport service for York people travelling to Leeds for cancer treatment, on the road.
