SUPERMARKET workers are showing the Christmas spirit with two festive initiatives to help their communities.

Staff at the Tesco stores on Tadcaster Road and Clifton Moor will both be running toy collections for Martin House Children's Hospice at the beginning of December.

Santas' workshops will be set up in both store foyers from December 1-12, and shoppers are encouraged to donate brand new toys for children aged 0 to 19.

Tesco will itself donate toys each day , and all will be given to children in the hospice.

The shopworkers are also pledging to grant Christmas wishes for the community around their stores. On each of the 24 days of December before Christmas Day, both stores will grant one Christmas wish from their areas - for example by helping clear drives of snow and ice; providing mince pies and coffee for church events, or painting scenery for primary school's nativity play.

To nominate a Christmas wish, speak to customer services at either store or contact Wendy Heptinstall on 07902 011594 or write to her at Tesco Tadcaster Road, Askham Bar, York YO24 1LW; or contact Janine Tompkins 01904 819467.
