A YORK hotel is using its £3 million upgrade programme to map out a new way of raising the profile of a North Yorkshire children's charity.

Over the next 80 days The Best Western Monkbar Hotel, which is adding 29 new bedrooms, function suites and refurbishing its existing public and guest rooms, is posting photographs of Martin House Children’s Charity mascot, Marty Bear, at 40 well-known landmarks around the world.

Those who follow Marty’s progress on social media have the opportunity to win a weekend stay in one of the new rooms.

Graham Usher, general manager at Monkbar Hotel, which has raised almost £40,000 for Martin House, said: "For many years now we have been supporting the wonderful work that Martin House does.

"We do this in a number of ways, including leaving mini Marty Bears on guest pillows for them to take home in exchange for a donation.

"We have now commissioned a limited edition of Marty’s wearing hi-viz vests.

"Our competition is designed to increase the awareness of Martin House and the support and care it provides to terminally ill children and their families."
