AN ANIMAL lover won a national competition when he raised hundreds of pounds selling tasty treats for charity.

Seven-year-old Jenson Buttery raised more than £240 for the RSPCA when he decided to set up an ice cream stall on the River Ouse during the summer holidays.

Jenson wrote to supermarkets to tell them about his challenge, and he was rewarded when Morrisons agreed to donate all the ice cream for the Wheldrake Primary School pupil’s sale.

With the help of friends and family, Jenson raised £206 selling cornets to walkers along the river, in Fulford, and collected £35 online after setting up a web page for donations.

The money will go towards the charity’s nationwide efforts to stop cruelty and the neglect of animals.

Mum Kara Buttery said: “We got a phone call on Thursday night from the RSPCA telling us we had raised the most in the UK.

“When we got the pack we didn’t realise there was a competition to it as well and he had won an iPad.

“He is interested in anything to do with animals and is very caring towards them.

“He will do anything for them.”
