A CYCLIST is planning to pedal from York to Barcelona in memory of his brother, who died last year from a brain tumour.
Dave Cook, 64, from Strensall, will cycle more than 1,000 miles to the Spanish coastal city with his friend, Ian Hagyard, from the Malton Road area of York, to raise funds for Brain Tumour Research.
He said his brother Ken, of Stonegrave, near Helmsley, died last November, aged 68, five months after being diagnosed as terminally ill with a brain tumour.
The cyclists will set off on Saturday, biking to Hull to catch an overnight ferry to Zeebrugge.
“On Sunday, we are riding down to Ypres to visit the grave of my uncle William Garbutt, who was killed in the First World War in 1917,” said Dave.
“From there we are heading into France and stop off points are Armentieres, Saint Quentin, Chateau Thierry, Saint Florentin, La Charite sur Loire, Moulins, Pont du Chateau, Saint flour, Severac le Chateau, Beziers, and then into Spain along the Med to L’Escala and then Barcelona, where we plan to arrive on October 31.”
