A children's hospice is saying thank you 200,000 times to the people of North Yorkshire for their generosity and hard work in a 12-month fundraising campaign.

The BBC Radio York's Good Night's Sleep Appeal started a year ago with the aim of raising £120,000 for Martin House Hospice near Wetherby for children with life-limiting illness in North, West and East Yorkshire.

So many individuals and groups staged events and responded generously to the appeal it reached its target in eight months and kept going until, now, after 12 months, the appeal fund has topped £200,000.

Hospice community fundraiser Alison Wragg said: "We are absolutely delighted to reach £200,000 and would like to thank the people and companies of North Yorkshire who have, and still are, supporting the appeal. We are grateful for the opportunity to be able to talk about Martin House on air and raise awareness of the work that we do.”

The radio station's deputy editor Matt Foster said: “The response from our listeners has been nothing short of amazing. To have reached £200,000 in twelve months is beyond any expectations I had when we started the appeal."
