CYCLING bar staff got in the saddle to raise thousands of pounds for injured servicemen and women.

Employees of Revolution bars from across the country descended on York to ride either a 25-mile or 65-mile route around parts of Stage 2 of the Tour de France - from York to Harrogate - which was tackled by the world's leading cyclists earlier this year.

Jennifer Williams, executive assistant to the chief executive of the bar chain, was one of 22 riders taking part in aid of Help for Heroes.

She said: "We did this for a charity the team likes and it's quite poignant to a lot of people.

"We employ some ex-servicemen and have people with family that have been in the services, so it's quite relevant and a lot of people can get behind it."

All riders cycled the first 13 miles together before going their separate ways, but met up in York's Coney Street Revolution bar afterwards to celebrate their efforts of raising almost £1,200.
