A MEMORIAL hockey match is being held today in memory of a York teenager who died of a heart attack.

Matthew Linfoot, 18, was an active, respected player at Acomb Hockey Club who suffered a fatal heart attack after complaining of chest pains in a match against York Trojans.

Despite the efforts of paramedics he sadly passed away in hospital in 1994.

The Matthew Linfoot Memorial Hockey Match, organised by Acomb Hockey Club, invites past and present members of York Trojans Hockey Club, supporters and hockey fans to watch a friendly fixture between Acomb and The Rest at 3pm at Energise Sports Centre.

Matthew’s father, Chris said: “We all know someone that’s been affected by heart disease – sadly it touches us all. We were delighted Acomb Hockey Club wanted to mark the twentieth anniversary of the day Matthew passed away, to remember Matthew’s life and his passion. It’s good to know that our efforts will make a difference in helping to fight for every heartbeat.”

A post-match social will follow with refreshments and fundraising Acomb Sports Club in aid of the British Heart Foundatio To donate, send a cheque to Acomb Hockey Club, 11 Muirfield Way, Acomb, York. YO26 5QW.
