A TEAM of fundraisers from a Selby charity have taken part in a sponsored walk.

The walkers, from Selby Hands Of Hope, walked from Whitby Abbey to Selby Abbey, covering 70 miles in three days at the end of July, and have raised about £2,000 for the charity.

Richard Singh, whose mother Wendy founded the charity, was among those taking part, along with Craig Hewitt, Tony Walker, David Baker, Lyndsey & Marc Jackson, Andy Dixon, Richard Singh, Richard Cammack, Martin Nee, Sheridan Marshall, Mat Nelson, Martin O'Neil, Debbie Leach, Graham White, Paul Lighten, Ernie Grace, John Holmes, Howard Underwood and Steve Howard.

Richard said: "The walk itself was always going to be hard, but add to that the extreme heat on all three days and this was a major effort. One I can safely say was the hardest challenge I have ever done, it was equally the best team I have ever been involved in. To walk a large section of Yorkshire reminded us all how beautiful this County really is."

Craig Hewitt said: "For sheer camaraderie it’s one of, if not, the best things I’ve ever been involved with, everyone hurt at some point but everyone encouraged and cajoled. For so many people to give up their time and put in so much effort is testament to the work of the charity and its founders and members, hopefully this will encourage even more to get involved. A great, if not painful, event and weekend and I look forward to further challenges, hopefully with the same people and more."

More than 50 members of the public gathered to see the team, who were helped around the course by members of North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, and followed by support drivers, finish in Selby.

Richard said: "The public support at both Skipwith and at Selby Abbey blew us away, it really made all the hard work worthwhile."
