People inspired by watching netball at the Commonwealth Games can see it in York on Sunday at a fun tournament to raise funds to help people with dementia.
Money from the event organised by York RI netball team will go towards refurbishing the dementia ward at York Hospital.
As well as netball matches, there will also be a bouncy castle, cake stall and refreshments.
The R.I.- Mix Tournament will start at 11am at York RI's sport ground on Hamilton Drive, Acomb and teams wanting to take part should contact Emma Gill on gillemma20@hotmail.co.uk or by ringing 07746 873 998.
Steve Reed, directorate manager of elderly medicine for the hospital, said people with dementia found being admitted to hospital disorientating.
"York Hospital has been successful in fundraising to improve the environment for patients on their joint assessment ward and want to take the best practice from this to other wards caring for older people. This includes large wall clocks, themed artwork and colour schemes to make rooms easier to locate and improved ward signage [e.g. for toilets/bathrooms.”
The proceeds from the tournament will be split half and half between the hospital and the cost of resurfacing the netball club's court.
