GOLFERS have given an £11,000 boost to St Leonard's Hospice in York.

The money was raised by members of Fulford Golf Club at its 34th annual Hospice Golf Tournament.

The total raised by members and friends for St Leonard's since 1980, when the hospice was still in the planning stage, has now topped £240,000.

Janet Morley, director of fundraising at the hospice, said: 'It’s amazing to think that Fulford golfers have supported the hospice annually for the last 34 years - even before it opened its doors for the first time. It’s a great tribute to them, and a pleasing vote of confidence in our work of caring for local people and their families.

"We are once again enormously grateful to everyone who took part."

The tournament winner was Paul Harrison and ladies winner was Elaine Rawson, while team prize-winners were Mike Winfield, Keith Potts and Paul Harrison. The club's next Hospice Day will take place on Friday May 1, 2015.
