NORTH Yorkshire Police officers will be among those taking part in a triathlon this weekend to raise money for charity.

The 15th annual Blacksheep Ripon Triathlon Festival Weekend wakes place at the Garden Racecourse, Ripon, across Saturday and Sunday, with new events including a Junior Triathlon and a cycling Tour Sportive.

The event is supported by British Armed Forces, local traders, Soreen, Harrogate Spring Water, Bavaria, Pop Up Arenas and Blacksheep Brewery of Masham.

Inspector Chris Galley is race director and said: “This weekend will be a huge party finish to the Grand Depart in Yorkshire. We have arranged loads of family fun across the whole weekend. We now have an opportunity for younger athletes to show us what they can do along with an opportunity to test your cycle legs against the same Yorkshire Dales’ hills which challenged the Tour de France riders.

“Of course our main Adult Triathlon is what NYP Tri do best and our Triathlon is certainly the safest and the biggest Club run triathlon in the UK. We raise a significant amount of money for charity, for local groups and clubs and in particularly for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.”
