A CHARITY ball will be held to raise money for charity this summer, to support a York woman’s fundraising.

The ball, which will also include a live auction and raffle, will be held on Friday, August 8, and will raise money for The Brain Tumour Charity.

Kerry Thompson, whose father died in May six years after being diagnosed with a brain tumour, will trek 80km of the Great Wall of China in seven days later this year.

Kerry, who lives in York and works in Leeds, said: “I am really looking forward to hosting the ball for such an important cause, I’ve never hosted an auction before so dreading that, but it should be good fun.”

Kerry is aiming to raise £2,600 for The Brain Tumour Charity with the ball at The Queens Hotel, Leeds.

Louise Taylor, the charity’s director of fundraising, said more than 9,000 people are diagnosed with a brain tumour each year and brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of children and adults under 40.

She said: “We receive no government funding and rely 100 per cent on voluntary donations, so it’s only through the efforts of people like Kerry that we can change these shocking statistics in the future and bring hope to the thousands of people who are diagnosed with a brain tumour every year.”

Tickets cost £45 and include a drink on arrival, a three-course evening meal with drinks, live auction, raffle, and DJ until 1am.
