MORE than a hundred pupils and staff from a North Yorkshire girl's school are gearing up to take part in Sunday's Race for Life.

About 160 girls from Queen Margaret’s School, Escrick, will take to the Knavesmire in York to raise funds aiding the fight against cancer.

It is the third year the school has taken part and so far they have raised almost £12,000 for Cancer Research.

Deputy head Carole Cameron, said: "Participating in Race for Life has become a significant event in the charitable activities Queen Margaret’s engages in throughout the year; for many girls this race is very close to their hearts, and we are very excited to be participating for the third year."

Thousands of people have signed up to take part in the Race for Life, which takes place at York Racecourse.
