STAFF at a city centre opticians went all out for Easter to raise funds for an eye cancer charity.

Workers at Vision Express York, on Parliament Street, sported bunny ears for the day on Easter Saturday, April 19, and welcomed performing magician Tom Crosbie into the shop to entertain customers.

The event was part of a bid to raise £1,000 for the Childhood Eye Cancer Trust, and included a raffle and goody bags and the offer of free frame repairs in return for a donation to the charity.

York grandma Gill Crook was also in the store to help boost donations as an ambassador for the charity. Gill has been campaigning passionately about childhood eye cancers after her grandson Walter Rappe-White survived retionblastoma.

The idea for the Easter fundraising came after the shop staff ran similar events last year with an Eighties day in October, and a Christmas festive fundraiser.

Store manager Judith Crowe said they were hoping to raise even more cash with the help of magician Tom.
