A ‘BANDAGE day’ organised by a pupil at a York school has raised £324 for the hospital which successfully treated him for burns.

Jak Church, 10, of Acomb, who goes to Dringhouses Primary School, raised the money which will be divided between the Burns Unit and the Children’s Burns Club at Pinderfields Hospital, in Wakefield.

The Press has reported previously how Jak was badly burnt when his father’s boat caught fire on the River Ouse last summer and how he wanted to raise money as a thank you to Pinderfields for nursing him to recovery.

Because Jak returned to school with bandages still on, he asked it to hold a Bandage Day, similar to the non-uniform days commonly held at schools, and more than 250 pupils recently made a voluntary donation to wear a bandage.

Rosie Wallace, the school’s business manager, said: “We do a lot of fundraising at Dringhouses Primary School. Jak and his family will be visiting Pinderfields Hospital in person to hand over the cheques in a few weeks’ time.”
