THE wheels are in motion for the annual Helmsley 10k.

This year’s event is sponsored by BHE agricultural contractors, from Sproxton, who will be taking along their newest addition – a New Holland T9 tractor.

Carol Swift, one of the 10k organisers, said they were delighted the company was sponsoring the event, which raises funds for the refurbishment of Helmsley Sports and Social Club.

“We would like to thank them for their support. Owner Simon Dunn will be bringing his new tractor, which has some of the biggest wheels in Yorkshire. People will be able to have their photographs taken with it,” she said.

“Simon will also be starting the race and giving out prizes at the end.”

Carol said entries were up on last year and they were hoping more than 400 runners would take part.

“This is the fifth run we have organised and it all helps towards improving the facilities we have at the club,” she said.

“The kitchen and changing rooms are almost finished and I am really impressed with them and we will now push on to get the bar area and snooker room done.”

The multi-terrain race takes place on Sunday, April 20, at 10am. The first 300 finishers are guaranteed a mug and an Easter egg. There will also be children’s races on the sports field for youngsters aged five to 15. There will be a medal and an Easter egg for all those crossing the line.

“We want to get more children involved with sport and the facilities we have at the club,” Carol said. “It is hard work organising the 10k but it makes it worthwhile when we see the refurbished club and we hope people will now start to come forward and use what is on offer."
