A TOP secret location in York will play host to a Great Gatsby themed ball to raise money for charity.

Bringing the 1920s back to the city, Amnesty International will host a Secret Masquerade Ball on May 31, but only if they can raise enough money for it to go ahead.

Peter White, member of the organising committee along with York St John University students Megan Conman and Sasha Thorpe, said that he is confident they can raise the £1,395 needed for the ball to run but wants to encourage York residents to get behind the event.

He said: "All I can say at the moment is that it will be at a beautiful location in the city centre. We want to know that York wants this event and that Amnesty has the support of the community.

"We will be revealing little teasers of information as the date gets closer."

A true night of mystery, the location, entertainment and surprises throughout the evening will be kept secret until the first snippet of information is revealed once the fundraising target is met on Friday, April 25.

Hoping to bring together both the local and national Amnesty International community along with university Amnesty groups, Peter said that the masquerade theme was chosen to draw attention to human rights abuse and show people how they can support the right to freedom of expression.
