Flour power has helped York grandmother Brenda Gledhill raise thousands of pounds for charities whose supporters have snapped up her wares like hot cakes.
Baking tirelessly in aid of Older Citizens Advocacy York, Brenda’s cakes, scones, tarts pies, jams and chutneys attract regular customers from far and wide to fairs organised by City of York Council in Rowntree Park, Clifton Backies and Acomb Green.
Her oven skills are also the toast of local produce markets and charity events such as the Parliament Street charity market, where she is a well-known figure with her husband Eric always by her side.
This year alone, Brenda has raised more £600 for OCAY. Over the past ten years, the charity reckons the total has run into thousands.
