A NIGHT of musical nostalgia at a York social club has raised £440 for the Alzheimer’s Society.

The Best Of British 1940s dance night, staged at the Tramways Club in Mill Street, included jazz and swing music, with people invited to dress in outfits and uniforms from the decade. A singalong took place and the hall was decked in patriotic red, white and blue.

Organiser and singer Brenda Mackfall, 79, who chose to support the society as it is one of her favourite charities, said: “The atmosphere was wonderful and it was a night we will remember for a long time.

“We want to thank the Tramways Club for making sure we were warm and cosy on a very cold night and for helping to make the evening special.”
