For the last event in York Against Cancer’s 2012 Silver Celebration fundraising appeal, the Tesco store at Clifton Moor sponsored a steam charter train from Pickering to Whitby, providing refreshments for the 400 passengers.
Ralph Magee, right, director of York Against Cancer, is pictured with Peter Hunter, Tesco’s customer services manager.
Mr Magee said: “The charity was very grateful for Tesco’s generosity, as it enabled us give away everything on the day and rewarded the people of York and the surrounding area, who have supported York Against Cancer to the tune of well over £100,000.
“This has meant that we have been able to buy a respite home property in Whitby, which will be opening later in the year.’’
