A CHURCH in York city centre has been playing its part in an annual shoebox appeal.

Worshippers at St Michael le Belfrey Church, in Minster Yard, donated boxes for the Operation Christmas Child Appeal, run by Samaritan’s Purse, and also acted as collection point for other donors.

In total, the church collected 571 boxes, up from 517 last year.

Mark Rance, the church’s head of operations, said they were very pleased with the total.
