THE latest fundraising campaign launched by York Hospital will give people the chance to have their personal message written in the stars.

Visitors and patients can buy one of the specially created stars to write anything they like and have it on the walls of the hospital in a display over Christmas.

Cash raised will go to the hospital’s Star Appeal, an ongoing campaign to give the Stroke Rehabilitation Unit a much-needed refurbishment.

Lucy Watson, fundraising manager at the hospital, said: “We are giving people the chance to buy the stars, which cost £5, and they can then personalise them. Schools and businesses can buy them too. If you want them to go in a particular ward we can do that.”

She said the appeal had recently reached £120,000, but the hospital hoped to reach its £300,000 target next year.

Work is also expected to begin next month on the first stage of the refurbishment, which will see the installation of a ceiling track system used to move patients.
