THE Friends of Knavesmire Primary School are launching a new recipe book this Christmas, to raise money for the school.

Bakes, Treats and Eats is a compilation of over 60 favourite recipes from families and staff at the school.

The Bishopthorpe Road cafés; The Pig and Pastry, Stanley and Ramona, Trinacria, Robinsons and The Angel on the Green, have also contributed a sponsored recipe to support the project.

Bakes, Treats and Eats is all set to delight anyone who enjoys baking and aims to get children involved in the kitchen, as many of the recipes are simple to follow and illustrated with photographs from professional photographer and Knavesmire parent, Jim Poyner.

Adam Cooper, the head teacher at Knavesmire Primary School, said: “In these increasingly difficult financial times for schools, it’s great that we have a group of parents here who help to raise much needed funds.

“The money raised will go towards various things to enrich the children’s learning including trips, workshops and friendship benches for the playground.

“I shall be buying several copies of the recipe book and that’s Christmas sorted.”

Chair of The Bishopthorpe Road Traders’ Association and owner of Trinacria, Beppe Lombardo said: “We are delighted to be involved with this book.

“I think it is a great idea to create a connection between businesses in the area and others institutions and members of our community.

“Working, creating and collaborating we can create a unique way of living. It is lovely when our community all comes together for something like this.”

Judith Dodd, chair of the Friends said: “Last Easter, the friends held a series of after-school cake stalls to raise money for new books.

“They were so popular that we decided to share the expertise of the school’s talented bakers by putting together our own recipe book.

“ It’s been an exciting project to develop and thanks to the team at Fulprint, we’re really pleased with how professional the finished book looks.”

The recipe book, which is a soft cover and spiral bound, so very flexible for using in the kitchen, is being sold for £7.50.

It will go on sale at the Friends of Knavesmire Primary School Christmas Shopping Evening on November 30.

Copies of the book will also be available to buy from participating cafés on Bishopthorpe Road and from the school office.

Back in September the school raised money when children and adults ran a 2km colour run.
