STUDENTS donned their best attire for a night of celebration.

Year 11 pupils at Sherburn High School, in Sherburn in Elmet, attended their end of year prom at Hazlewood Castle.

A total of 90 students turned up to the event in their finest outfits and enjoyed a buffet meal and a disco.

Four girls arrived at the prom in a police van after North Yorkshire Police came to their rescue when the exhaust fell off their vintage car.

The theme of the event was ‘Enchanted Forest’, and the prom committee decorated the room at the venue accordingly.

One of the highlights of the evening was the Prom Awards, with accolades ranging from ‘Best Bromance’ to ‘Clumsiest Person’. Steven Shepherd and Lauren Barnett were named as the prom’s king and queen. Headteacher Maria Williams said: “Year 11 students have worked incredibly hard throughout their time at Sherburn High School and fully deserved this wonderful celebration, they are a credit to their families and to the school and were recognised as such by Ofsted with the school’s ‘good’ report.

“We look forward to welcoming them back in the Sixth Form and are sure that their GSCE results will be outstanding and once more place the school at the top of the league tables.”
